Out of all the social media platforms, Instagram is the one I use the most. I use it both personally and professionally through my photography business. I spend time scrolling through reels, keeping up with friends and family, and sharing my photography work. Because I use the app so often, I’ve also noticed just how powerful Instagram is as a marketing tool.
Instagram gives businesses the opportunity to reach a very specific audience through advertisements, reels, and sponsored posts. The platform’s algorithm learns users’ interests and shows them content and ads that are relevant to them. Because of this, advertisements often feel more personalized instead of random.
I have actually purchased products and done business with companies after clicking on Instagram advertisements. Usually, the ads that catch my attention are for photography equipment, clothing, Disney products, or products that solve a problem I’m currently having. I also tend to click on ads that include videos because seeing a product in action makes me more interested in learning more about it.
As someone who works in digital marketing and owns a small business, I think Instagram has completely changed the way companies connect with consumers. Businesses no longer have to rely only on traditional advertising methods because social media allows them to build relationships, engage directly with customers, and create content that feels more personal and authentic.
Overall, Instagram has a huge influence on consumer behavior and purchasing decisions. I know from my own experience that a well-designed and relevant advertisement can absolutely turn a casual scroll into a purchase.
